Oyo Govt Seeks Synergy With Private Universities, Polytechnics, Others

The Oyo state government through ministry of Education, Science, and Technology has reiterated the need for synergy between the Ministry and private tertiary institutions operating in the state.

The commissioner for Education, Science and Technology, Prof. Salihu Adelabu stated this during a stakeholder meeting with the heads of private tertiary institutions operating in the state.

Prof. Adelabu explained that a healthy interaction between government and private tertiary institutions would stimulate growth in the education sector.

He, therefore, admonished operators of the private tertiary institutions in the state to endeavour to work hand in hand with the government in the overall interest of the students.

He called on all the private Tertiary institutions, be it University, Polytechnic, Monotechnics Colleges of Education, Colleges of Health Sciences and host of others to visit the Department of Higher and Continuing Education of the ministry for proper documentation of their institutions.

He said: The essence of today’s meeting is to bring synergy between the Ministry of education and all our private tertiary institutions in Oyo State, be it private university, Polytechnics, college of education (NCE) Monotechnics and Colleges of Health Sciences.

“There is no way a private institution can only interact with NUC,and other education regulatory bodies without having a relationship with the ministry of Education in the State.

“In the Ministry of Education Science and Technology, we just need to bring private tertiary institutions into the board, by making sure that they register with us in the ministry.

“Also, In terms of teaching, we want to look at the quality of what they are teaching in their various institutions. Our monitoring and evaluation unit needs to know the quality of teachers teaching their students.

“ In the area of research, several proposals have been requested for the private institutions, instead of going to Rwanda, going to Zambia, to move to collaboration with such partners.

“We can always bring them on board to us. We are joining us in conducting our research.

“ In the area of community service, we need them because the Tertiary is focused on three major things which are teaching, research and community service.

So, these are endless benefits.

In his remarks, the Executive Assistant to the Governor on Security, CP Sunday Odukoya Rtd, enjoined all private institutions in the state to do the proper registration with the ministry of Education, Science, and Technology.
He urged them to prioritize security in their various institutions, adding that the state government has invested heavily on the security of the state.

He maintained that the present administration in the state has created an enabling environment for private businesses to thrive in the state.

In his remarks, the proprietor of ADECOM College of Business and Management, Dr Adewale Adesina, commended the Oyo state government and the Ministry of education for organising the meeting that will cement the cordial relationship of private tertiary institutions in the state and government.

The meeting was attended by Coordinating Director, Mrs. Christiana Bolaji, Director of Higher and Continuing education, Mr. Oluwole Adewale, Heads of Private Tertiary Institutions in Oyo State.
