Oyo Monarch Reinstated After Suspension Over Alleged Ties to Illegal Miners

The Executive Governor of Oyo State, Engr. Seyi Makinde has reinstated a traditional ruler, the Onido of Ido, Oba Gbolagade Muritala Babalola (Gbadewolu I), six months after his suspension.

Ido local government chairman, Hon. Sheriff Adeojo made this development known on Tuesday while presenting the reinstatement letter to the monarch.

Recall that the state government suspended Oba Gbolagade Muritala Babalola (Gbadewolu I) as the Onido of Ido in Ido Local Government Area of the State, in a letter dated 2nd of February, 2024 and signed by the the Commissioner for Local Government and Chieftaincy Matters, Hon. Olusegun Olayiwola.

The letter further indicated that Governor ‘Seyi Makinde approved the suspension on 1st of February, 2024.

In his congratulatory remarks, the council chairman said, the state government, under the leadership of governor Seyi Makinde will continue to make traditional institution to remain a stabilizing force in communities and in the state as a whole.

According to Adeojo, he commended, Governor Seyi Makinde for his support and believes that the traditional institution remains the backbone of any government as a result of their closeness to the people of the grassroots.

Adeojo said governor Makinde believes that the government, at all levels, could not afford to jeopardize the roles of traditional rulers in collaboration for good governance and security of communities within their domains.

He, thereafter, urged Oba Muritala Babalola (Gbadewolu I) to continue to use his kingship to promote peace in Ido local government.
