Oyo Police Debunk Rumoured Death of Lottery Operator, Says Victim is Recuperating in Hospital

The Oyo State Police Command on Sunday debunked the rumoured death of a lottery operator identified as Mufutau Sanni, a.k.a Murphy, in a scuffle involving a Yoruba and an Hausa man.

Earlier in Ibadan today, there were fears that a life had been lost in an argument that involved a Yoruba man and an Hausa man, around Mobil area of Ring Road in Ibadan .

Rumours circulated on social media had it that in an attempt to settle the fight, Mufutau had been stabbed and died while being rushed to the hospital.

An eyewitness has said the lottery operator’s intervention was misconstrued by other Hausas who are majorly commercial motorcycle operators, which made them to descend heavily on him.

The attack on Murphy, was said to be huge to the extent that he had to be rushed to a nearby hospital, where he is being treated.

Reacting to the incident, the Public Relations Officer of the State Police Command, Adewale Osifeso, has debunked the death of Mufutau, disclosing that the victim is presently recuperating at an undisclosed hospital in Ibadan, while he called for calm among residents.

He said: “At about 10:30am on Sunday, upon the receipt of a distress call, operatives of the Oyo State Command responded to an alleged breach of peace situation around Mobil Area Ring Road, Ibadan.

“Preliminary investigation revealed that the victim was escorted off the scene, after suffering deep cuts on his body, by police responders”, he added.

Osifeso disclosed that police operational and tactical assets have been deployed to forestall any untoward happenings in the axis while the situation is being monitored.

Earlier, some Twitter and Facebook users had circulated fake news that there was crisis in Ibadan between some Hausa and yoruba men.
