Oyo 2023: Adelabu’s Name Missing as Makinde, Others Make INEC List

Sequel to the release of names of governorship aspirants in Oyo State, reactions have trailed the omission of the name of former Deputy Governor of Central Bank of Nigeria, Adebayo Adelabu.

The 2019 APC governorship candidate now turned Accord Party candidate’s name was not included on the list of Oyo State governorship candidates published by INEC on July 24, 2022.

The Independent National Electoral Commission in Oyo State had on Friday displayed the list of the governorship, deputy governorship and House of Assembly candidates at its headquarters in Ibadan.

According to INEC, no fewer than 15 persons will contest the Oyo State Governorship seat in the 2023 general elections.

In the meantime, the list of the governorship candidates published include:

Folarin Teslim – All Progressives Congress

Popoola Joshua – New Nigeria Peoples Party

Ajekigbe Olaniyi – Action Alliance

Agbomeji Olamide – Young Progressive Party

Agboyega Raymond – National Rescue Movement.

Ajadi Ganiyu – Democratic Congress

Sadiq Adigun – Labour Party

Okunade Adeyemi – Boot Party

Okedara Mojeed – African Action Congress

In a statement signed by its Administrative Secretary, Biodun Amosu, the commission had appealed to the public to seize the opportunity to scrutinise the particulars of candidates, stressing that they could also seek judicial remedy for any observed violation of the law as provided in Section 29 of the Electoral Act 2022.

Meanwhile, a reliable source close to Adelabu have reacted to the omission, assuring that Adelabu’s name will be included in an updated list to be released by the Independent National Electoral Commission, INEC.

The source who begged not to be named as he was not authorised to speak, explained that his name not included in the list was normal, adding that his name can only come in through the substitution window.

“This is God’s own project, don’t bother yourself. Let’s wait till the end”, he stated.
