The husband of Oyo school principal, Mrs Rachael Alamu, has narrated why he stopped communicating with the kidnappers who held his wife captive, saying their repeated threats severely affected his health.

Professor Wole Alamu made the disclosure during a thanksgiving service organised after his wife’s release, revealing that the constant calls and messages from the abductors left him emotionally exhausted and caused a spike in his blood pressure.

Mrs Alamu, the principal of Ahoro Esinle School in Oriire Local Government Area of Oyo State, was abducted alongside teachers and pupils by armed men on May 15, 2026. They were later rescued after spending more than 50 days in captivity.

Speaking on the ordeal, the professor described the incident as the greatest trial his family had ever encountered, noting that it disrupted their peaceful life centred on education, family and Christian service.

He praised security agencies for their prompt response, saying senior military officers, police authorities and surveillance teams swung into action shortly after news of the abduction broke.

According to him, he remained in contact with the kidnappers for about three weeks before deciding to end all communication after discovering that every conversation took a toll on his physical and emotional well-being.

Professor Alamu said he eventually blocked the abductors’ phone numbers after concluding that the negotiations were threatening his own health, adding that he chose to entrust the situation to God.

He disclosed that the kidnappers later informed his wife that they intended to kill her because he had blocked their numbers, but she reportedly stood her ground and declared that she would not be harmed.

The professor said the abductors allegedly left a cutlass beside his wife, hoping she would take her own life, but she refused and remained resolute throughout the ordeal.

He added that the family received overwhelming support from Nigerians at home and abroad, including religious groups and organisations that offered assistance during the crisis.

Reflecting on the experience, Professor Alamu urged Christians to remain steadfast in their faith, saying life’s challenges often test the depth of one’s relationship with God, while expressing gratitude for his wife’s safe return.
