OYRTMA Urges Motorists to Uphold Orderliness at Fuel Stations, Deploys Officers to Traffic-Prone Areas in Ibadan, Ogbomoso

In a bid to ensure safety of road users and commuters, the Oyo State Road Transport Management Authority (OYRTMA) has instructed motorists, motorcyclists and tricycle drivers across the state to enthrone orderliness at fuel stations, in the face of increasing traffic gridlock particularly in Ibadan metropolis.

The Executive Chairman, OYRTMA, Dr. Mogaji Akin Fagbemi made the call today, while addressing journalists shortly after his personal tour and assessment of the ravaging gridlock presently experienced at some locations in Ibadan metropolis and Ogbomoso town.

Dr. Fagbemi who regretted the difficulty being experienced by motorists at filling stations over the past few days elevated hope that concerned authorities in charge of making the much needed Premium Motor Spirit (PMS) available, are doing the needful towards ensuring that the situation is surmounted in no distant time.

In his words, the OYRTMA boss said, “The present traffic loggerheads being experienced at major parts of Ibadan metropolis and Ogbomoso are largely due to long and disorderly queues at filling stations across the town, as motorists and residents alike struggle to get fuel.

“In some fuel stations at critical paths, we have observed that vehicles are haphazardly arranged and queues are not respected thereby encroaching the roads almost up to the median while some vehicles flagrantly passes through one-way in other locations.

“This has significantly impeded the free flow of traffic along such areas which include Odo-Ona, Apata, Oluyole, Ring-Road, Dugbe, Challenge, Mokola, Ojoo among several other places in Ibadan metropolis and it’s environs in Ogbomoso.
 
“We therefore call on all residents and motorists to maintain orderliness and conduct themselves in such a way that those with right of way would not be deprived of free movement”, Dr. Fagbemi said.

Dr. Fagbemi also disclosed that the outfit has also deployed men and officers to areas identified as hot spots, to assist in maintaining order so as to ensure free human and vehicular movements, in a swift move to arrest the present situation.

He concluded by expressing hope that the present troubling situation shall pass and normalcy would return in no distant time.
