Panic as Gunmen Abduct 4 Chinese Rail Workers on Ibadan-Abeokuta Road

Armed men, on Wednesday, June 16, 2021, have reportedly abducted four Chinese workers working on the railway terminus at the Ibadan-Lagos federal government standard gauge railway project along Ibadan-Abeokuta Road.

According to reports, a yet-to-be-identified police officer who was guarding the employees was fatally shot, and his AK-47 gun was taken by the kidnappers.

Eight attackers invaded the rail project site in Adeaga/Alaagba community in Odeda Local Government Area of Ogun State, dressed head to toe in black and armed with AK-47 rifles.

Personnel from the Nigeria military, police, Amotekun Corps, vigilante organization, So Safe Corps, and local hunters stormed the surrounding bushes in search of the assailants and their victims as soon as the authorities were alerted but were unable to catch them.

A police squad and officials from the Federal Road Sector Commission (FRSC) recovered the body of the slain police Inspector from the location shortly after the incident.

Chief Adekunle Olabamiji, the Baale of Alaagba Village, which is located on the boundary between Oyo and Ogun states, testified that the gunmen had set up an ambush for the Chinese workers in the nearby forest. He expressed his disgust at the incident, describing it as startling because the railway workers were constantly protected by police and the military.

DSP Abimbola Oyeyemi, the Ogun command’s police spokesman, confirmed the kidnapping to the press over the phone and disclosed that the police, together with other sister security agencies, members of the Oodua People’s Congress (OPC), vigilantes, local hunters, and others have immediately sprung into action and have stormed the jungle to look for, and rescue the Chinese workers.
