Academic activities, on Monday, commenced as primary and secondary schools in Oyo State commenced the 2022/2023 academic session.
The News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) reports that students in most of the schools visited in Ibadan were seen being introduced to their new classes and teachers.
The Vice-Principal of Oluyole Community Grammar School, Ibadan, Mrs Ademola Kazeem, urged the students in her school to always see teachers as their parents by obeying them at all times.
She also enjoined them to make punctuality their watchword and see the new teachers posted to the school and relate well with them as part of the school family.
NAN reports that class activities had commenced in Ansar-Ud-Deen Secondary School, Liberty Road, Ibadan and others visited within the Ibadan metropolis.
Mrs Felicia Oguntoyinbo, a parent, however, decried what she called the high cost of books and other learning materials.
Oguntoyinbo expressed regret that the prices of books and other learning materials had recorded a tremendous increase, adding that most of them had almost doubled their former prices.
“We want the government to come to our aid concerning the high cost of books and other learning materials in the market. The prices are killing us.
“The money we used to buy two books before can hardly buy one now. Parents now spend more to settle the academic demands of their children. So government should help us address this problem”, she said.
