The Oyo state police command, on Wednesday, paraded 9 suspected criminals who capitalized on the #EndSARS protest to commit arson and looted public and private valuables.
The state commissioner of police, CP Joe Enwonwu, while parading the suspected criminals, said the nine suspects were arrested in the Oke-Ogun area of the state for attacking the Iseyin Police Divisional headquarters and carted away arm, ammunition, and other valuables.
He added that six suspected criminals who carried out a coordinated attack on the palace of the Soun of Ogbomoso land, Oba Jimoh Oyewumi Ajagungbade the 3rd, and unleashed mayhem on the Ogbomoso town have been arrested and charged to court.
When quizzed on the kidnap of the Caretaker Chairman of Iganna Local Council Development Area, Comrade Jacob Olayiwola Adeleke, the Commissioner of police hinted that the police tactical teams with the help of the local hunters and vigilantes have swung into action, noting that the Caretaker Chairman will regain freedom in the next 48 hours based on the logistics put in place.
While speaking on the unavailability of policemen on the streets and scanty traffic wardens on the roads, CP Joe Enwonwu said the police have changed strategy and will not expose its personnel to danger, noting that the police will only respond to distress call while other day-to-day activities will be placed on hold and reviewed on a short run.
CP Enwonwu who mourned police officers who were killed in the wake of the EndSARS protest, explained that Six policemen were gruesomely murdered, five divisional police headquarters, as well as police patrol vehicles were burnt; while some of the police officers in various divisional police headquarters are still missing.
He added that police arms and ammunition were carted away due to the activities of criminal elements who leveraged on the #EndSARS protest to perpetrate heinous crimes.
