Governor ‘Seyi Makinde has advised the outgoing corps members of the 2021 Batch ‘B’ (Stream I) service year, to take a step towards self employment, by putting into practice the skills acquired in the course of their service year.
Citing the alarming rate of unemployment bedeviling the country, Makinde urged the youths to sustain the ideals of self reliance, stating that the Skills Acquisition and Entrepreneurship Development Programme (SAED), remains a laudable initiative of the NYSC scheme geared at empowering the graduate youth and equipping them to become entrepreneur.
He said: “The attitude majority of our young graduates must put on, is that of creative thinking and individual initiative at the end of service year”.
The governor, who gave the advice at the Passing Out Parade of the 2021 Batch ‘B’ (Stream I) held at the Lekan Salami Stadium Adamasingba, Ibadan, Oyo State, was represented by Honourable Commissioner for Youth and Sports, Hon. Seun Fakorede.
Makinde in his closing remarks commended the corps members for contributing immensely to the well being of the good people of Oyo State through the Community Development service projects, in such areas as primary healthcare delivery, education, infrastructure and agriculture.
Earlier in her address, the State Coordinator NYSC Oyo State, Mrs Grace Ogbuogebe, appreciated the commitment and resilience of the outgoing corps members and said such core values will assist in shaping them in the outside world.
Ogbuogebe therefore urged the outgoing corps members to take self improvement as priority in order to harness their potentials for the growth of our dear nation.
She equally appreciated the the Oyo State government and corps employers, for granting a conducive environment for the corps members to render selfless service in the course of their service year.
Highlight of the Passing Out Ceremony was the colourful display of parade by outgoing corps members, presentation of state honours award to Komolafe Eniola Peace with — OY/21B/0210, who impacted positively in the educational sector during her service year.
Other awardees were presented with the State Coordinator’s commendation letters.
The outgoing corps members were later issued with the Certificate of National Service.
