Residents Storm Oyo Secretariat Over Ibadan Circular Road Setback Demolition

Residents of Ibadan, the Oyo State capital, have in hundreds stormed the State Secretariat located at Agodi to protest the demolition of their houses.

OyoAffairs can confirm that houses have been demolished as a result of the ongoing construction of the Ibadan circular road.

Recall that the Governor Makinde led state government earlier today approved the sum of 41 billion naira for the upgrade of the Ladoke Akintola Airport, Alakia, Ibadan to international standard.

But OyoAffairs learnt that scores of residents were stranded when the government began the demolition of the houses that were build against the master plan of the state. The government has announced a 500m setback for the circular road, a development which had since brought tension to residents who built their houses against the plan.

Hundreds of these affected house owners today stormed the Secretariat to protest against the demolition.

Brandishing various placards, the protesters demanded stoppage of the ongoing demolition of their houses. Some of the residents also advised the state government to halt the demolition.
