After a long meeting with the Minister of labour and the Minister of Power, the National Union of Electricity Employees (NUEE) has called off its nationwide strike this evening.
The decision followed an emergency meeting with the two Ministers on Wednesday.
The minister’s spokesman Olajide Oshundun announced that Ngige intervened in the industrial action.
NUEE Secretary General, Joe Ajaero, assured that electricity would be restored across the country tonight.
Speaking on if all of the issues raised have been resolved, Comrade Engr. Chika Ben, the presidential general of the Senior staff association of electricity and allied workers, said:
” I thank the honorable minister of labour and the minister of state for power for their maturity in handling these issues that we brought up. Yes, these issues could have been tackled earlier on if there was variable communication with all parties. But well, as we have said, we’ll give two weeks to wish to report back to the full house”.
He continued: Well, we assure the nation that such a crisis will be nipped in the bud before it escalates.
Recall the electricity workers had earlier on Wednesday shut down all Transmission Companies of Nigeria (TCN) offices as a means to articulate their demands over Workers’ welfare.
