Schools in Oyo to Reopen 20th September, 2021

The Oyo State Government has directed all public and private primary and secondary schools in the state to resume for the 2021/2022 academic year on Monday, September 20th, 2021.

This was contained in a circular dated 7th September 2021, showing details of the academic calendar of the year and signed by the Permanent Secretary of the Ministry of Education, Science and Technology, Mrs. A. B. Atere.

The first term of the 2021/2022 academic session is billed to start on 20th September 2021, with a mid-term break of two days between 4th and 5th November, 2021 and will last for 13 weeks.

Schools will be expected to close for Christmas break on Friday 17th December 2021 and reopen for the second term of the academic year on Monday 10th January 2022.

The second term is expected to have the same number of weeks as the first term with a two-day mid-term break in between and a three week Easter break which begins on Friday 8th April, 2022.

Monday, 2nd May 2022 will mark the beginning of the final term of the session as it is the longest term in the academic session with 14 weeks as well as two days break and six weeks long holiday.

The government in the circular directed that all academic activities should begin at full gear as truancy and complacency will not be tolerated.

The session is expected to have few interruptions because of public holidays which might be declared by the Federal or State Government were they deem it fit to do so and it is expected that all schools observe those holidays as at when called upon to do so.

This academic session will be the first full-scale academic session since the advent of the Covid-19 pandemic in early March 2020 in Oyo State and the session is expected to end on Friday, 5th August, 2022.
