Stop Extortion by House Agents in Oyo State Before it Gets Out of Hand — Concerned Residents Petition Makinde

Some residents of Oyo state as well as immigrants are lamenting the recent trend of unbearable extortion by house agents in the state, especially in Ibadan.

In a statement signed by one of the concerned resident, Ayoola Olamilekan Ipaye, the concerned residents appealed to Governor Makinde and the Commissioner of Land, Housing and survey, to as a matter of urgency regulate the activities of these agents in the state before it gets out of hand.

The statement partly reads: “The Oyo state government under the auspices and leadership of our astute, God-fearing, focused and assiduously working Governor, ‘Seyi Makinde should please as a matter of urgency through the office of the Commissioner of Land, Housing and Survey help control and mitigate the extortion of the so called house agents in Oyo state, as they pose unbearable charges on the good people of Oyo state especially on the new people who as a result of good governance in Oyo state, find themselves around here and they want accomodation to settle down”.

Condemning the unreasonable increment of agent charges in the state, the petitioners lament that “A house rent of N150, 000 will be going with agent fee of about N50, 000 to N70, 000, this is a pure act of corruption and extortion at its greatest form; which of course we all know the governor frowns against act of wickedness, theft and extortion”.

Meanwhile, the petitioners have expressed hope that an investigation will commence soon, in order to restore normalcy in housing matters of the state.

  • Pleas our governor engineer seyi Makinde and commissioner for housing and land agency should please arise to this issues. House agent in ibadan, the percentage of their charges it’s an unbearable which is inconvenience to the citizens for example they collect 2000 for inspector, then if landlord is given out the house for the sum of 100000 yearly agent charges will be 50000 or 70000 and still pay their transport this is corruption and stealing please we need your intervain sir
