Supreme Court faults reinstatement pleas of Deposed Oyo ALGON members

…orders Makinde to compensate them
… LG election to go on as planned

Nigeria’s highest court, the Supreme Court has today rejected the restoration request of the deposed Oyo state Local Government Chairmen and Councilors which was brought before it by the Association of Local Government Organization of Nigeria.

The aggrieved ALGON members who were elected towards the tail end of former governor Abiola Ajimobi’s administration were sacked once Governor Seyi Makinde resumed office.

The Court however has ordered the state government to pay all the council chairmen and councilors their arrears salaries and allowances before August 2021. It also awarded N20 million cost against Makinde

The Judgment by the Supreme Court has now confirmed that the Local Government election which was billed to hold on May 22, 2021 will proceed without any legal infringement.
