SW PDP: Arapaja Reconciles with Olopoeyan, calls for a United Party

On a quest to unify and placate aggrieved members of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in the Southwest Zone, the Zonal Chairman; Engr Taofeek Arapaja yesterday led a delegation of the Southwest PDP excos on a reconciliation visit to prominent Ibadan politician; Alh Adebisi Olopoeyan.

In a press release signed and made available to journalists yesterday, Arapaja revealed that it would be wrong and strange if Alhaji Olopoeyan didn’t show his displeasure at whatever he felt was wrong, stating that the Ibadan PDP stalwart has played a crucial role in the development and success of the PDP in the Zone.

He also stated that it would be wrong if Alhaji Olopoeyan remained at odds with him and the rest of the party because they both have a long history together, starting from when they both enjoyed the patronage of the former Southwest PDP leader; Late chief Lamidi Adedibu, adding that there will always be a rallying point between Arapaja and Olopoeyan.

Arapaja praised Governor Seyi Makinde for nominating him to bring Olopoeyan back into the fold, alluding to the governor’s political dexterity and foresight. He also mentioned that but for the crisis that happened, there was no reason why Olopoeyan would ever support anyone against him and that he was happy that about the reconciliation.

“The opposition that continues to woo you to their side has nothing to offer but their usual use and dump tendencies that they always display, we all shouldn’t allow them to use us against ourselves, we shouldn’t for any reason give room for the lapses that happened in 2011 repeat itself again because at the end we would be at the receiving end”, Arapaja added.

Arapaja also stated the importance for all hands to be on deck so that the PDP can continue to go from strength to strength. This, he said, was because having won Oyo State, the focus should be on adding more states to increase the party’s dominance in the Southwest zone.

When he spoke, Alhaji Adebisi Olopoeyan thanked and appreciated the visiting team and promised to put all hands on deck to shelve all grievances and work together because of his brotherhood with Arapaja.
