Troops repel Igangan herdsmen attack, invade hideouts – Defence HQ

Members of the armed forces have repelled another attack by Fulani herdsmen on Igangan during one of their recent operations according to the Defence Headquarters.

The Acting Director of Media Operations, Defence Headquarters Brigadier General Bernard Onyeuko disclosed this on Thursday at a Defence HQ press briefing in Abuja. He said that members of the Armed Forces neutralized several crimes such as banditry, terrorism and kidnappings from June 3-16.

He added that there was a decrease in criminal activity across the country during that period and attributed this decrease to our troops’ operational efforts, stating that their actions had denied these criminals any latitude to operate. He also added that more decisive actions to combat terrorism, kidnapping and other crimes will soon be implemented.

He explained how Operation Awatse troops conducted operations to repel armed herdsmen in the Southwest and raided their hideouts and also gave an example of how the troops repelled a recent attack at Igangan, Ibarapa North LGA, Oyo State.

He said, “Troops were mobilized to the scene and engaged the herdsmen during which some of them were neutralized while others fled with gunshot wounds. Some of the criminals were arrested and handed over to appropriate prosecuting agency for further action.”
