UPDATE: Oyo Assembly Gives Deputy Governor 7 Days to Respond to Impeachment Petition

Twenty-four out of the Oyo State House of Assembly members have notified the State Deputy Governor, Engr. Rauf Olaniyan of their plan to impeach him based on allegations bordering on gross misconduct, abuse of office, financial recklessness, among others.

It was gathered that all members of the Peoples Democratic Party except Hon. Ayawo Adebunmi from his constituency, failed to sign the impeachment process.

The notice of impeachment was today read to the house, by the clerk during it’s plenary session.

Recall that the deputy governor recently decamped to the opposition All Progressives Congress (APC)

Below is the petition:

PETITION AND NOTICE OF ALLEGATION OF THE DEPUTY GOVERNOR OF OYO STATE, HIS EXCELLENCY ENGINEER RAUF OLANIYAN

RT. HON. SPEAKER SIR,

Consequent upon listed below, we the under listed elected Honourable members of the 9th Assembly hereby allege the Deputy Governor of Oyo State, His Excellency, Eng. Rauf Olaniyan with the following allegations:

  1. Gross misconduct
  2. Abuse of office
  3. Financial recklessness
  4. Abandonment of office, official duty
  5. Insubordination and other offences.

This is in accordance to the Constitution of the Federal Republic of Nigeria as amended in 2011, Section 188.

Meanwhile, Olaniyan has been given a fair hearing to defend himself of all the allegations against him within the next 7 days, as stipulated by the Nigerian Constitution.

The Speaker RT. Hon. Adebo Ogundoyin who presided over the sitting said the State Deputy Governor, Engr Rauf Olaniyan has seven days to answer the allegations levelled against him.

The State Assembly has since adjourned sitting till Thursday, 16th June, 2022.
