US Consulate Inaugurates Education Advisory Centre in Ibadan


The United States Consulate, Lagos, has inaugurated an Education USA Advisory Centre in Ibadan to provide opportunities for Nigerian students to study in America.

The opening of the centre was performed on Wednesday by the Public Affairs Officer, United States Consulate, Mr. Stephen Ibelli, and the Oyo State Commissioner for Education, Mr. Olasunkanmi Olaleye, at the American Corner in Ibadan.

Ibelli stated that the consulate are working with the commissioner for Education on promoting education and studying in USA.

He said that with more than 14,000 Nigerians studying in America, the quality and high standard of American education would assist Nigerians in helping their country with wonderful skills and knowledge.

He also added thar the centre would advise and help students to understand the US education process so that they could apply to American universities.

Meanwhile on the part of the commissioner, Olaleye expressed appreciation to the US government for bringing the opportunity to Ibadan, saying it was the first out of the additional four service centres in Nigeria.

He explained that residents of Oyo State won’t have to travel to Lagos or Abuja before equipping themselves with necessary processing, and will just need to travel over when a need for visa becomes necessary.

He also noted the opportunity to benefit from the American government’s educational programmes, particularly in terms of getting scholarships from their universities, especially for straight A’s students wanting to go to the university right from secondary school.
