Yoruba Nation Leader’s Residence attacked by Gunmen in Ekiti

Gunmen have reportedly attacked the Ado-Ekiti residence of Prof. Banji Akintoye, the leader of the umbrella body of Yoruba Self-Determination Groups, Ilana Omo Oodua (IOO)..

In a statement on Tuesday, Ilana Omo Oodua through its Communication Secretary, Mr Maxwell Adeleye, confirmed to newsmen that the attack occurred over the weekend.

According to him, the gunmen scaled through on Saturday, October 30, to access the compound.

He also confirmed that Prof. Akintoye was not around when the incident occurred and no one was hurt, but several bullets were seen in the compound.

Maxwell however noted that the situation has since been reported to the Ekiti State Police Command for prompt investigation.

The statement stressed that with the said gunmen attack on the house of Prof. Akintoye, ”Yoruba people within, and beyond the horizon of Nigeria will hold the Nigerian government responsible if any evil happen to our leader or any of his relations.”

The 86-year-old Emeritus Professor of History and member of the Senate in the Second Republic, has been the forefront of the struggle for the actualisation of Yoruba Nation.
