The Oyo State chapter of the Allied Peoples Movement (APM) has dismissed the reconciliation committee recently inaugurated by the All Progressives Congress (APC), describing the initiative as a futile exercise that will fail to resolve the party’s lingering internal crisis ahead of the 2027 general elections.

In a statement issued by the APM Publicity Secretary, Amubode Oluwatosin, the party said the APC was embarking on a “failed mission,” arguing that the reconciliation effort was “dead on arrival” because of what it described as entrenched divisions within the opposition party.

According to Amubode, the camp of the APC governorship candidate, Senator Sharafadeen Alli, allegedly operates a “winner-takes-all” approach and lacks the willingness to accommodate aggrieved stakeholders and party loyalists.

He further alleged that appointments into key political offices, including SSG commissioner, special adviser and local government chairman positions, had already been shared among leaders within Alli’s political camp, despite the 2027 governorship election still being ahead.

The APM spokesman maintained that genuine progressives within the APC would not be persuaded by the reconciliation move, insisting that dissatisfied members would resist what he described as political manipulation.

Amubode also questioned the appointment of former Senator Olufemi Lanlehin as co-chairman of the reconciliation committee, arguing that he had previously led a similar assignment before the 2023 general elections without achieving the desired outcome.

He claimed that Lanlehin headed the committee established to resolve disputes arising from the APC’s congresses and primaries ahead of the 2023 elections, but alleged that the exercise failed to unite the party and instead deepened internal divisions.

According to him, reappointing Lanlehin to head another reconciliation effort would produce a similar outcome and could further weaken the APC’s chances in the 2027 elections.

“The Oyo APC is on a failed mission again. The reconciliation committee co-chaired by Olufemi Lanlehin and Taoheed Adedoja will fail woefully, just as it did in 2023,” Amubode stated.

He added that the committee lacked the capacity to address the party’s long-standing grievances, promote harmony among stakeholders or foster the unity required to prepare the APC for future elections.
