Three women were abducted by unknown gunmen on Monday at Onipe community, along Ibadan-Ijebu expressway.
The women were later identified as ; Mrs. Okeowo, Mrs. Abosede Adebayo and the third; Mrs. Bola Ogunrinde who sources later identified to Nigerian Tribune correspondents as possibly a member of the Nigerian armed forces.
Sources also shared that the armed men jumped out to the road around 8:20 a.m. and started shooting sporadically to scare onlookers away before abducting the three women and retreating.
The case was immediately reported at Idi Ayunre police station where the DPO swung into action and formed a patrol consisting of Anti-Kidnapping unit policemen, Counter-Terrorism Unit (CTU) operatives and local vigilantes to start searching for the kidnappers and their victims.
Sources also shared that the abductors had recently switched to the road to operate, and in that time frame, had already carried out at least two operations, kidnapping three quarry site workers and a female commuter on April 6. The police eventually secured their release on April 9.
The kidnappers had earlier struck at Ibuso Gbooro on March 15, and abducted two bank officials, two commuters and a palm wine tapper.
When contacted, the Oyo state police spokesman, DSP Adewale Osifeso confirmed the story, saying that the aforementioned patrol was hot on the heels of the kidnappers and further added that security agents were leaving no stone unturned to rescue the victims and arrest their abductors
