Shooting Stars Sports Club (3SC) have reacted to the Nigeria Premier Football League’s (NPFL) decision declaring the Lekan Salami Stadium, Adamasingba, unfit to host league matches, assuring supporters that urgent steps are being taken to address concerns raised by the league.
The club’s response follows an official NPFL letter dated 30 January 2026, in which the league informed the Ibadan-based side that the Lekan Salami Stadium was no longer suitable for NPFL fixtures following recently concluded broadcast and television rights agreements.
In the letter, signed by NPFL Chief Operating Officer Davidson Owumi, Shooting Stars were directed to immediately select an alternative venue for their home matches, choosing between the MKO Abiola Stadium in Abeokuta and the Mobolaji Johnson Arena in Lagos, with a deadline of Monday, 2 February 2026. The NPFL warned that failure to comply would result in the league allocating a venue on the club’s behalf.
Reacting to the development, Shooting Stars confirmed receipt of the NPFL’s communication and acknowledged concerns about the condition of the playing surface at the Lekan Salami Stadium.

In a statement issued by the club’s management, Shooting Stars said “concerns surrounding the playing surface are being addressed with utmost seriousness,” adding that several measures had already been put in place to improve the state of the pitch.
According to the club, recent interventions include intensified pitch maintenance, grass treatment, levelling works and regular watering, aimed at restoring the turf to acceptable professional standards.
The club also attributed the deterioration of the pitch to prevailing weather conditions, noting that the ongoing dry season and harsh climate had significantly affected the playing surface.
“It is important to note that the current dry season and harsh weather conditions have significantly affected the playing surface, a challenge we have been actively managing,” the statement said, stressing that work on the pitch has remained continuous to ensure steady improvement and long-term sustainability.
Shooting Stars reaffirmed their commitment to providing a safe, professional and broadcast-friendly playing environment that aligns with their status as one of Nigeria’s most historic football clubs.
The club further assured supporters that it would continue to engage constructively with the NPFL in line with the league’s directive, while prioritising permanent solutions that would allow home matches to return to Ibadan under acceptable conditions.
“We appreciate the patience, understanding, and continued support of the Oluyole faithful as we work diligently to resolve this matter,” the club added.
The Lekan Salami Stadium has long served as Shooting Stars’ traditional home ground, and the NPFL’s decision has sparked concern among fans, many of whom see the venue as central to the club’s identity and home advantage.
As of the time of filing this report, Shooting Stars have yet to formally announce whether they will temporarily relocate to Abeokuta or Lagos for upcoming NPFL fixtures while remedial work continues on the Adamasingba pitch.
