89-Year-Old Oba Owolabi Olakulehin Nominated as 43rd Olubadan of Ibadanland

The Olubadan in Council has put forward Oba Owolabi Olakulehin as the next Olubadan, being the most senior high Chief from the Balogun line of Olubadan Chieftaincy Ascension making him the 43rd Olubadan of Ibadanland. The nomination was announced after a private meeting at the Olubadan of Ibadan palace, Oja’ba. The announcement was made by the Osi Balogun of Ibadanland, Oba Gbadamosi Adebimpe.

Representing the council, the Otun Olubadan of Ibadanland, Rashidi Ladoja, revealed that Oba Olakulehin has been selected as the next Olubadan. The nomination letter, signed during the meeting, will be forwarded to the Oyo State Governor, ‘Seyi Makinde for final approval. This traditional process, deeply rooted in Ibadanland’s customs, will lead to the commencement of the coronation once the governor gives his consent.

The gathering included all members of the Olubadan in council, along with the designated Olubadan, except for the Ọtun Balogun of Olubadan, Oba Abímbólá Ajibola, who had previously expressed concerns about Oba Olakulehin’s fitness for the role.
