Residents Appeal to Oyo Govt for Urgent Assistance as Rain Wreaks Havoc in Ibadan

Following the heavy downpour on Tuesday evening, many residents and motorists are calling the attention of the Oyo State Government to the havoc wreaked on their communities.

A Tweep @AfePeter who is a resident of Oloronbo/ Shogunro Village, Ibadan of Oyo State has lamented the pathetic state of properties in the area owing to the effect of recent heavy rainfall.

He tweeted; “We sincerely seek the support of necessary state Government agencies to come to our aid at Oloronbo/ Shogunro Village for the storm that destroyed Commercial & residential properties close to 20-houses that got destroyed yesterday 14/6/2022 due to heavy rainfall”.

In a similar development, residents and motorists in Ariyibi-Olomo community in Apete, Ibadan of Oyo State have lamented the pathetic state of roads in the area owing to the heavy rainfall.

Hence, residents of the area are lamenting the serious challenge posed by it, appealing to the authorities concerned to as a matter of urgency attend to the state of the roads, stating bad roads are affecting their businesses and livelihood in different ways.

A resident of Oloro street, Adeleke Oni, said the lack of proper drainage has caused a lot of chaos and affecting the health and wellbeing of the people.

He said a journey of less than 20 minutes now takes up to an hour or more without alternative routes.

“During both raining and dry seasons, the road is not motorable, but can still be a little bit manageable during the dry season. If motorists are not careful, it can damage their vehicles, but during raining seasons, things get worse

A motorist operator, Ademola Isiaka, said “this road has always been a challenge for drivers. As a resident who own a car, at times I don’t go to work with my car. Instead, I take bike.

Similarly, in Oluyole around Oke-ayo up till 7up road and Oluyole industrial estate Ibadan, residents experienced floods on the road with the flood overwhelming the Zartech bridgilw while some of the residents and motorists were spotted defying the waters to go to their various places of livelihood earlier today.
