In Ibadan, Court Docks Man for Allegedly Stealing ATM Card, Withdrawing N36m

Olanrewaju Alonge, 47, was on Monday charged to Iyaganku Chief Magistrates Court in Ibadan for allegedly stealing an ATM card and subsequently withdrawing N36 million.

Alonge, whose address was not provided, was accused of theft by the police.

The defendant, however, pleaded not guilty to the charge.

The Prosecution Counsel, ASP Amos Adewale, told the court that Alonge stole an ATM card belonging to Mr Babajide Owoeye and between 2021 and Sept. 13, 2022, he withdrew N36 million.

The offence, he said, contravenes the provisions of Section 383 and is punishable under Section 390 (6) (9) of the Criminal Code, Laws of Oyo State 2000.

In the meantime, the Chief Magistrate, Mr Emmanuel Idowu, has admitted the defendant to bail in the sum of N1 million with two sureties in like sum.

Idowu, thereafter, adjourned the matter until Dec. 19, for mention.
