Farmer, Herder Hospitalised After Violent Clash in Oyo

A 20-year-old herder, Salau Isiaka, and a 25-year-old farmer, Akinkunmi Tiamiyu, have been hospitalised following a violent altercation between them.

The clash, which left both men injured, occurred on 21 March 2025 in Ilowa-Gbade Village, located in the Atiba Local Government Area of Oyo State. Both individuals are currently receiving medical treatment at a healthcare facility.

The Public Relations Officer of the Oyo State Police Command, Adewale Osifeso, confirmed the incident in a statement issued to journalists on Saturday. According to Osifeso, preliminary investigations revealed that the dispute arose over grazing rights on 21 March 2025.

The confrontation began when Isiaka took his cattle to graze on Tiamiyu’s cassava farmland, which quickly escalated into a physical fight. The herder, Isiaka, sustained a severe head injury, while the farmer, Tiamiyu, suffered significant injuries, including the loss of two fingers from his left hand.

Osifeso stated that both individuals are currently receiving medical treatment and that a thorough investigation is underway at the Command’s Criminal Investigation Department in Iyaganku.

He added, “Contrary to exaggerated reports, preliminary findings indicate that the altercation was a dispute between two individuals over grazing rights. The situation escalated when Isiaka allowed his cattle to graze on Tiamiyu’s cassava farmland, resulting in a physical confrontation. Both parties sustained serious injuries and are receiving medical care. The investigation is ongoing to ascertain the full details of the incident.
