The Oyo State Road Traffic Management Authority (OYRTMA) has announced the deployment of 465 officers across major roads and Eid prayer grounds in the state to manage traffic before, during, and after the Eid-el-Kabir festivities.
The Authority’s Chairman, Major Adekoya Adesagba (Rtd), disclosed this on Tuesday during a pre-festive briefing with journalists at his office in the State Secretariat, Ibadan.
According to Major Adesagba, the deployment is a proactive measure to guarantee public safety and effective traffic control, given the anticipated surge in vehicular movement.
“Our officers will be stationed at strategic locations, particularly around Eid prayer grounds and major highways within Ibadan and other parts of the state where heavy traffic is expected,” he stated.
To strengthen operational capacity, the Chairman revealed that OYRTMA has mobilised a fleet of vehicles and equipment, including: light-duty Tow trucks, heavy-duty Tow trucks and Patrol vehicles
Major Adesagba further noted that OYRTMA Marshals and Youth Volunteers will join regular officers in controlling traffic and assisting motorists throughout the celebration.
Operations will commence a day before Eid-el-Kabir, he added, due to the expected increase in commercial and private vehicles traveling from Oyo State to other parts of the country. Inbound traffic from other states passing through Oyo State especially along the busy Iwo Road axis in Ibadan—is also anticipated.
“This proactive approach is aimed at preventing congestion and ensuring smooth vehicular movement along major roads, entry points, and exit routes within the state capital,” Adesagba explained.
The Chairman appealed to motorists, commercial drivers, and all road users to cooperate with traffic officers, obey regulations, and avoid reckless driving during the festive period. He also encouraged residents to report emergencies, accidents, or traffic obstructions via OYRTMA’s toll-free emergency lines: 07047000594 and 09128888878.
Reaffirming the agency’s commitment to safety and order, Major Adesagba assured residents of hitch-free movement throughout the Eid-el-Kabir celebration in Oyo State. He extended warm felicitations to Muslim brothers and sisters across the state and Nigeria, wishing them a peaceful, joyful, and accident-free celebration
