Army GOC 2 Division Warns Residents Near Ojoo, Olorunda of Upcoming Shooting Range Exercise

The Headquarters 2 Division Training School of the Nigerian Army is set to conduct a Range Classification Exercise from Wednesday, July 9 to Thursday, July 11, 2025.

The exercise will take place at the Major General O.F. Azinta Shooting Range within the cantonment.

The Acting Deputy Director, Army Public Relations, 2 Division Nigerian Army, Lieutenant Colonel Polycarp Okoye, who made this known through a statement stated that the range classification is a major training requirement for student soldiers currently undergoing the Basic Battle Course at the training school

According to him “The exercise is designed to refresh and enhance the weapon-handling proficiency of trainees as professional soldiers. It is also aimed at evaluating the overall level of training and operational readiness of the troops for battle and other assigned military duties,” Lieutenant Colonel Okoye explained.

The Army also advised residents of communities around Adekunle Fajuyi Cantonment not to panic upon hearing gunfire during the period of the exercise.

“Members of the public, particularly those residing around the cantonment, are kindly advised not to be alarmed by the sound of gunshots during the exercise,” the statement read.

Those engaged in farming or hunting activities within the barracks vicinity were also advised to avoid the shooting range area throughout the duration of the training.
