Auto Mechanic in Ibadan, bags 6-month Community Service, Forfeits Property over Cyber Fraud

Adebayo Saheed Modebola, an internet fraudster has been sentenced to six months community service by Justice Bayo Taiwo of the Oyo High Court, sitting in Ibadan.

According to a press statement by Wilson Uwujaren, the Head of Media & Publicity of the Commission, 21-year-old Saheed, was guilty of impersonation in a criminal charge filed against him by the Ibadan Zonal Command of the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission, EFCC.

He had claimed to be an automobile mechanic when he met his waterloo on Tuesday, November 2, 2022 as the judge held that the commission sustained the allegation of impersonating one Stephanie Cameron Caron, to defraud people through the use of the internet.

The offence is contrary to Section 484 of the Criminal Code Law Cap 38, Laws of Oyo State 2000.

Apart from the six months community service, the judge also ordered that the convict restitutes the sum of one thousand US Dollars ($1,000) to his victim through the Federal Government of Nigeria and the EFCC.

Saheed also forfeits an iPhone 11 mobile phone to the Federal Republic of Nigeria.
