Court Remands Herdsman Over Murder of Togolese Farmer in Oyo

A Chief Magistrates’ Court sitting at Iyaganku, Ibadan, Oyo state, on Monday, ordered the remand of a 27-year-old herder, Auwal Salisu, at Abolongo Correctional Facility.

Mr. Salisu was charged with the murder of a Togolese farmer, Kosi Apaji, on his farm in Aada village, via Jobele, Oyo on January 17.

The prosecuting police officer; Femi Oluwadare, told the court that the herder killed the 50-year-old farmer by chopping off his head and two legs before being apprehended.

He claimed the offence was in violation of the Oyo State Criminal Code of 2000.

The defendant’s plea of lack of jurisdiction was not accepted by the presiding Chief Magistrate, Emmanuel Idowu.

He ordered Mr Salisu’s detention at the penitentiary facility pending the Director of Public Prosecutions’ advice.

Mr Idowu however adjourned the case till April 4 for hearing.
