The All Progressive Congress (APC) in Oyo state would be thrust into a new internal crisis in the coming weeks as a result of the state’s recently convened ward congress.
According to reports, Chief Dr. Azeez Popoola Adeduntan, a former Oyo State commissioner of health who contested to be APC’s flag bearer in the 2019 governorship election in the state and is hoping to run for governorship in 2023, may be heading to court to challenge what he called “Electoral Fraud and Subversion of the People’s Wishes.”
In a petition dated 14th August 2021, Akinjide & Sadiq Esq, on behalf of Azeez Adeduntan, Lamidi Adebayo, ward 01 caretaker chairman and secretary, APC, Ibadan south west local government, Ismaheel Adekanmi, and Muritala Kareem, submitted a petition to the newly established Appeal’s Committee on Ward Congress Election of the APC, that it had previously notified the party of Hon Saheed Fijabi’s plan to replace the list of ward candidates that had been democratically agreed upon by the majority of party members.
“On the congress day, the candidates in the list submitted to the caretaker chairman were all returned unopposed by consensus and together with the minutes of the ward meetings where the consensus arrangement was adopted. “
In the petition, Adeduntan, who is the Osi Bashorun of Ibadanland and the President of the Adeduntan CardioVascular & Diagnostic Centre (ACDC) Ibadan, urged the committee to remain steadfast in their mission to ensure justice, equity, and fairness, and to uphold no other list of party officers than the list of candidates submitted to INEC officer; Mr. Olutehinse Alaba Olusola who oversaw the ward 01 congress election, to avoid further legal actions.
“Because there would be no MUGUN OR JAGBA in 2023, our processes are ready for court,” Adeduntan asserted.
