Dugbe Market Inferno: Governor Seyi Makinde Visits Scene

24 hours after fire gutted a section of a popular market in Ibadan, governor Seyi Makinde of Oyo state has given the hint of his government’s plan to establish an Emergency Endowment Fund for Disaster Management.

Governor Makinde disclosed this on Thursday when he paid an on the spot assessment visit to Dugbe Alawo Market in Ibadan where Goods and property worth millions of naira were destroyed in an inferno that gutted about 30 shops on Wednesday.

Governor Makinde during a visit to the market sympathized with the traders while assuring them of necessary government intervention in-spite of COVID-19 the state is battling with.

On his part, the Zonal Director, National Emergency Management Agency, NEMA, Mr. Slaku Lugard, who said recommendations of the agency would be sent to its headquarters in Abuja, assured the victims of the fire disaster of federal government’s assistance.

In a chat with Oyo Affairs correspondent, one of the victims of the disaster and property owner, Mr. Dapo Davies, lamented the great loss, noting that he had spent over thirty years advancing his business to the current level before he lost all to the inferno.

A bakery, pure water factory, electronics, mattresses, and other valuables were part of items consumed in the inferno.
