Eddy Olafeso promises to congratulate Arapaja if beaten fairly

Ayodele Fayose’s preferred candidate for the position of National Vice Chairman (Southwest) of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in Monday’s election, Dr Eddy Olafeso, has promised to congratulate his rival; Governor Makinde’s preferred candidate, Taofeek Arapaja, if the latter wins in a credible election.

It was gathered by the Nation Newspaper correspondents that Olafeso made the pledge when he was interviewed at the ongoing congress at WOCDIF Centre, Osogbo, Osun State.

He is the immediate past National Vice Chairman (Southwest) and is contesting alongside Rev. Bunmi Jenyo who is going for the zonal secretary position.

Olafeso said, for him, the contest is not a do-or-die affair as his priority is serving the people and he will gladly accept the result and work with his opponent if the congress does not go his way.

“For me, I have handed over my life to God’s hands. If I win, it will be exciting, if not, it is God’s will, but the election must be free, fair and credible,” he said.

In the interview, he went on to say that he had engaged stakeholders to unite and strengthen the party in the region during his last tenure which ended last year and he pledged that he would build on his past records if returned.

He also mentioned the current situation where the PDP governs only one state out of the six states in the region and stated that much work was needed to be done for the PDP to regain its status as the premier political party in the region.

Olafeso also emphasized that members of the PDP in the region are like family, stressing that nerves will calm down after the congress is resolved today.
