Four Oyo Cyclists Bag Medals for Nigeria in African Cycling Competition

Four Oyo State athletes who represented Nigeria at the just concluded 2022 Confederation of African Cycling Track Championship in Abuja, have scooped Silver and Bronze medals. 

The trio of Tawakalitu Yekeen, Rahmat Ibrahim, Adejoke Durogbade won silver medals while their counterpart, Elizabeth Ajibade won bronze medal in the elite women’s 200m category.

The Chairman, Oyo State Sports Council, Gbenga Adewusi who said this in a statement issued by the council, disclosed further that the duo of Oyo State athletes, Oluwatobi Akinola and Azeez Abass also participated at the continental championship.

The elated chairman commended the athletes for their impressive performances, emphasising that there is need for them to improve in the subsequent competitions.

In the meantime, fifteen countries participated in the tournament held at the Velodrome, Moshood Abiola National Stadium, Abuja

The competition which started on 14th July, ended on Sunday, 17th July 2022.

It would be recalled that Nigeria won the maiden edition in 2019, which was also held in Abuja but came fourth this time with a total of 17 medals — four gold, seven silver and six bronze medals.
