The Oyo state governor, Engineer Seyi Makinde and the former governor of Ekiti state, Ayodele Fayose have arrived in Osogbo, the capital city of Osun state for the South-West Zonal Congress of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), scheduled to hold today.
The seat of the PDP Southwest Zonal Chairman will be keenly contested between Dr. Edward Olafeso who has the backing of former governor of Ekiti state, Ayodele Fayose, and Taofeeq Arapaja, a former Oyo State deputy governor who has the support of Governor Seyi Makinde.
Meanwhile, Governor Seyi Makinde has boosted confidence that his anointed candidate, Taofeeq Arapaja, will triumph at the PDP Southwest Zonal Congress, and mocked the former governor of Ekiti state, Ayodele Fayose, and his candidate Dr. Edward Olafeso for struggling to get delegates’ support.
It should be recalled that the Southwest zonal congress had earlier been slated to hold in Ibadan, Oyo State but the change of venue became necessary as a result of the misunderstanding between Ayo Fayose, and Governor Seyi Makinde.
However, the PDP national leadership has with all stakeholders concerned to achieve a seamless and unifying congress of the party in the South West region.
The assurance came two days after suspected political thugs disrupted the North-West Zonal Congress of the People’s Democratic Party (PDP) at Kaduna International Trade Fairground.
