In fulfilling one of the core mandate of his Administration and as part of activities marking his one year in office, Governor Seyi Makinde of Oyo state has commissioned new classroom blocks at Anwar UI Islam Basic school at Ipapo, in Itesiwaju Local Government Area of Oyo state.
During his address at the classrooms commissioning which had top Government officials, educational stakeholders and the Chairman of the State’s Universal Basic Education Board, Dr Nureni Adeniran, in attendance, the Governor said the best legacy that can be bequeathed to any child is Education.
He made it known at Ipapo where mammoth crowd gathered to watch the historical moment, that when he started piloting the affiars of the state, he discovered a bloated budget but had to align the budget to what is implementable by reducing the size of the budget.
Governor Makinde said further that despite the reduction of the budget by close to 57%, he increased the Budget for Education from 3% to 10% and that when the opportunity came for the presentation of the Budget of gigantic movement to the State’s Parliament last year, the budgetary allocation for education was increased to 22.37%.
The Oyo State Governor also acknowledged the efforts of the Universal Basic Education, a Government agency, for their efforts at revamping the educational sector of the state and called for more collaborative efforts from all including educational stakeholders.
He assured that investment would not only be witnessed in infrastructural facilities, but also, the human capital development of schools and disclosed that efforts are on to reopen schools and charged students to prepare for their schooling activities and be worthy ambassadors of the state and the Country, at large.
The impeccable Engineer during his address at the commissions which was full of applause by indigenes and residents of Oyo state said the suspended recruitment of TESCOM would soon commence and disclosed that the State’s Covid-19 task force team is meeting on re-opening of schools on the 15th of July emphasizing that the days missed at schools, would be covered academically.
Governor Seyi Makinde however appreciated all for contributing to the upliftment of Education in Oyo state particularly, people in the private sector and disclosed to the excitement of all that before the expiration of his Administration, he would institute a state award system to acknowledge the contribution of all in the Educational system in the state.
