The Oyo state governor, Engr Seyi Makinde has ordered payment of Oyo State Waste Management Authority (OYWMA) workers salaries owed by the sacked contractor; Energy West Africa, within 24hours.
The governor while addressing the workers at the governor’s office on Tuesday when the women converged to seek the governor’s attention, stated that the present administration holds workers welfare in topmost priority.
He attributed the delay in the payment of the workers salaries to lack of straight forwardness and clarity in the records left behind by the sacked contractor adding that the case file has already been approved and the state Accountant General (AG) has been ordered to commence payment with immediate effect.
He stressed that the payment should be made directly to the workers who are entitled to the money which they have worked for.
He said “the last time I addressed you is about a month ago and I told you that the money owed you by your previous employer; Energy West Africa, will be paid by the state government because the state government was supposed to pay the contractor but I told them not to effect the payment until your own salaries are paid.
“When we are done paying your salaries, whatever is left will be given to the contractor if it is what they have actually worked for.
“I know that the commissioner for environment has addressed you earlier this morning but when I saw you on my way to the office, I inquired about the development because I thought your money has been paid so, I was told the file was on my table and I have approved of it.
“Because the records we met were not straightforward, you will come here and collect your monies by yourselves, they have gone to meet with the Accountant General now, they will commence payment this afternoon and if it is tomorrow morning they will effect the payment but it must not exceed tomorrow.”
