An officer of the Ogun State Traffic Compliance and Enforcement Corps (TRACE), Popoola Olasupo has been abducted at the Fidiwo axis on the Lagos-Ibadan expressway.
According to NAN, Olasupo was kidnapped around 6:30am on Sunday while heading to his duty post.
Witnesses said the attackers suddenly emerged from the bush and opened fire on a commercial bus that the TRACE officer was in.
No other passenger was reportedly kidnapped, aside from Olasupo.
Confirming the incident, Abimbola Oyeyemi , spokesperson of the Ogun Police Command, said the anti-kidnapping squad of the force is on the trail of the kidnappers.
“Our anti-kidnapping squad is already after them, we are combing the forests and we know that they will all be arrested.
“Ogun State is not a ground for criminals to settle. It is either they leave or we smoke them out of this state,” he added.
In the meantime, the incident was reported a few weeks after Oduneye Olusegun, a journalist, was abducted at the Ijebu-Ode area of the state.
The kidnappers were said to have demanded N30 million ransom from the family of the victim.
A couple of days later, the journalist was rescued after police officers traced his car to the Idimu area of Lagos.
Meanwhile, the rescue party was said to have engaged in a 45-minute gun battle with the abductors, before Olusegun was freed and one of the suspects arrested.
