Impeachment: Makinde Set to Replace Olaniyan With Lawal as Oyo Assembly Gives Approval

Following the impeachment of Oyo Deputy Governor, Engr. Raufu Olaniyan, Governor ‘Seyi Makinde has nominated Bayo Lawal, the incumbent chairman of the State Housing Corporation as replacement.

Lawal, a lawyer, who hails from Irepo local government was a former Attorney General of Oyo State in 1999 under the administration of former governor, late Lam Adesina; was appointed the Executive Chairman, Oyo State Housing Corporation by Governor ‘Seyi Makinde.

The Kisi-born politician was the candidate of the African Democratic Congress, ADC, in the 2019 senatorial election in Oyo North which was won by AbdulFatai Buhari of the All Progressives Congress, APC.

Recall that Lawal was recently nominated to deputise Gov Makinde for the 2023 election.

In the meantime, Oyo Assembly has approved the name of Bayo Lawal, Chairman of the Oyo State Housing Corporation, as ‘Seyi Makinde’s new deputy.

He is expected to be sworn in soon by the Chief Judge of the state

This is coming few minutes after Raufu Olaniyan was removed.
