The Zenith Labour Party (ZLP), Oyo state chapter has chosen an acting chairman of the party following the defection of the erstwhile Chairman of the party, Wole Abisoye.
The Secretary of the party, Bimbo Adepoju announced Evangelist James Kolawole Olaniyan as the new Chairman at an emergency meeting held at the party Secretariat, Samonda Ibadan, on Friday.
The meeting was well attended by the other 28 local government party chairmen and other stakeholders but Adepoju insisted that Senator Rashidi Ladoja remained the leader of ZLP in the state.
It would be recalled that former party chairman, Abisoye and five other local government chairmen of the party defected to the ruling Peoples Democratic Party, on Wednesday at the Agodi Government House.
Also in 2019, the ZLP was part of the coalition political parties that joined the PDP to ensure victory of Governor Seyi Makinde at the polls against the then ruling party, APC.
However, the 2019 ZLP gubernatorial candidate, Chief Sharafadeen Alli who dropped his ambition for Makinde, had after alleged failed promises made to them, and recently held an elaborate meeting with the All Progressives Congress ahead of their possible defection to the party.
Speaking with Journalists after the meeting, the secretary explained that the actions became imperative following the recent development within the party.
He also exonerated Chief Rashidi Ladoja from the meeting of the former Chairman with Governor Seyi Makinde and therefore appealed to party members to continue working there are ongoing consultations to resolve all lingering crisis.
Meanwhile, Kolawole Olaniyan in his appointment as the acting chairman, urged all their members to continue working for the progress of the party, adding that ZLP will soon spring new things in the State.
