The Oyo State League of Imams and Alfas, led by Sheikh AbdulGaniy Abubakry Agbotomokekere, has expressed their gratitude to Governor Seyi Makinde for declaring a public holiday to celebrate Hijrah 1445. The grand Imam of the state, in a statement, expressed his happiness upon hearing the news.
Yesterday, it was reported that Governor Makinde had declared today as a public holiday to mark the Islamic new year, which began on Wednesday, the first day of Muharram 1445AH.
The Ibadan-born cleric, speaking on behalf of the entire League of Imams and Alfas in Oyo State, stated that the Muslim community in Oyo is thrilled by this gesture. He also called for prayers for both the Makinde administration and President Bola Tinubu.
“We want to thank Governor Engr. Seyi Makinde for honoring us by declaring today as a public holiday to mark the beginning of the Islamic new year,” said the cleric. “This will further strengthen our support for this administration. We also urge the governor to consider Muslims in other appointments. We will continue to be supportive of his administration.”
