Makinde’s Statement on Insecurity, Bandits in Southwest Correct – Gani Adams

The Aare Ona Kakanfo of Yorubaland, Iba Gani Adams, has urged governors in the South-West region to urgently address the growing security threats posed by bandits infiltrating their states

Adams, who made the call following the alarm raised by Governor Seyi Makinde of Oyo State on the influx of bandits fleeing military operations in the North-West, said the alarm raised by the Oyo governor was real and needed urgent attention.

It will be recall, Oyo State Governor, Engr. Seyi Makinde, charged the Nigerian Military to intensify its efforts in 2025 to combat terrorism, kidnapping, armed banditry, and other security threats that could hinder the country’s economic development.

The Governor made this call during the closing ceremony of the 2024 Base Sociocultural Activities (BASA) and Veterans’ Parley of the 655 Nigerian Air Force Station in Ibadan

The Yoruba generalissimo, in a statement by his Special Assistant on Media, Mr . Kehinde Aderemi, urged the South West governors not to ignore the warning, insisting that insecurity has been a major issue in the country.

He said: “The alarm raised by Governor Seyi Makinde of Oyo State was a wake-up call for all the governors in the South West. I raised a similar alarm last year, and nothing was done; it is sad that up to the present time ,nothing has really changed, except that insecurity is increasing by the day.

“The South West Security Stakeholders Group, SSSG, and a few others under my leadership have been doing their best in ensuring that the South West region is safe.

“But now that Governor Makinde has raised the alarm, there is need for urgent approach to address the situation before it gets out of hand.

“So, I urge governors in the South West to be vigilant and do the needful by addressing the security situation in their respective states before it is too late. We will resist any attempt to turn Yoruba land into bandits and kidnappers’ foothold.”
