Oba Abimbola Akeem Owoade, the newly appointed Alaafin of Oyo, will start his 21-day traditional rites following his official recognition as the monarch.
Governor Seyi Makinde of Oyo State announced Oba Owoade as the new king on Friday, and on Monday, he was officially handed the staff of office, marking the transition from the late Oba Lamidi Adeyemi III, who died three years ago.
The ceremony saw the presence of the Oyomesi (kingmakers), high-ranking government officials, and notable figures from the state.
According to an anonymous source, after receiving the staff of office, Oba Owoade has gone to Oyo town where he will be welcomed by his community. His 21-day traditional rites, a crucial part of ascending to the throne, will commence immediately.
“Oba Owoade has gone to Oyo town to meet with the people of Oyo and will begin his mandatory 21-day traditional rites to ascend to the throne of his ancestors,” the source stated.
