Following a viral video showing some officers of the Nigerian Army assaulting and brutalising a yet-to-be-identified police traffic officer in Ibadan, Oyo State, the Nigerian Army has arrested a soldier connected to the incident.
Recall in the viral video, one of the traffic wardens who was controlling traffic on the road was seen publicly beatenup by the army men.
About four soldiers were seen hitting the traffic officer despite falling down on the motorway.
The incident took place on Friday, January 7 at Adeoye Road by Ring Road.
Speaking on the incident, the Army Director of Public Relations, Brigadier General Onyema Nwachukwu, said the Army Headquarters has ordered an investigation into the public assault, announcing that the soldier in custody is a Lance Corporal (name withheld).
“Efforts are being made in collaboration with the Oyo State Command of the Nigeria Police Force to identify, locate and arrest the remaining culprits”, Nwachukwu noted.
Frowning at recklessness on the part of the security personnel, the General said vicious attack on fellow security personnel or unarmed citizens was not consistent with the ethos and professionalism of the Nigerian Army.
The statement added that anyone found culpable in the Ibadan incident will face the full wrath of the disciplinary provisions.
