Oyo Assembly Summons Commissioner Over illegal Petrol Stations, Sets to Investigate LG Inventories

The Oyo State House of Assembly has directed the house committee on Local Government to investigate all the Local Government and Local Council Development areas through the State’s Ministry of Local Government and Chieftaincy Matters on the work being done at the Local Government level to preventing flood in raining season.

The house also requested the inventories of all the Local Government as to the functional equipment they have at hand to fight flood.

The directives came to fore during the house Tuesday’s plenary following a matter of urgent public importance moved by the Hon. Yusuf Adebisi.

The Speaker, Rt. Hon. Adebo Ogundoyin, while ruling on the motion, asked the house committee on environment to work with the Ibadan Urban Flood Management Project, IUFMP, and the State Ministry of Environment to take a record of flood-prone areas and submit their report to the house in the next two weeks.

The speaker noted that after the report has been submitted, people living along and close to waterways will be relocated while weakened structures on the waterways will be pull down.

In a similar vein, the Oyo State House of Assembly has summoned the State Commissioner of Lands, Housing and Urban Development, Barrister Abiodun Abdu-Raheem over countless illegal petro stations built in residential areas and other illegal ongoing constructions in the state.

The lawmakers also directed the House Committee on Works and Transport to meet with the Oyo State Road Maintenance Agency, OYTROMA, to determine their plans to fix dilapidated and worn-out roads.

The house, however, deliberated on a review of maternity leave policy for pregnant and nursing mothers in the employment of Oyo State for healthy motherhood from four months to six months.
