Oyo Govt Inaugurates Coronation Committee for New Alaafin of Oyo

The Oyo State Government has officially inaugurated a committee to oversee the coronation ceremony of His Imperial Majesty, Oba Abimbola Akeem Owoade, the newly appointed Alaafin of Oyo. The announcement was made in a statement released by the Commissioner for Information and Orientation, Prince Dotun Oyelade.

The inaugural meeting of the committee was chaired by the Commissioner for Local Government and Chieftaincy Matters, Hon. Ademola Ojo. The committee comprises four members of the Oyo State Executive Council, including Prof. Musibau Babatunde, Commissioner for Budget and Economic Planning; Dr. Wasiu Olatunbosun, Commissioner for Culture and Tourism; Hon. Ademola Ojo; and Prince Dotun Oyelade.

Additionally, the committee includes three members of the Oyo State House of Assembly: Hon. Gbenga Oyekola (Atiba State Constituency), Hon. Rahman Olorunpoto (Oyo East/Oyo West Constituency), and Hon. Oladeji Oparinde (Afijio Constituency). Seven family members of the new Alaafin, religious leaders, and other key stakeholders are also part of the committee.

Hon. Ademola Ojo emphasized that preparations are already underway to ensure a seamless and culturally rich coronation ceremony, in strict adherence to the traditions of the Oyo people. Prince Dotun Oyelade highlighted the state government’s track record in royal affairs, noting that the Seyi Makinde administration has overseen the coronation of 10 Kings and 40 Baales over the past five years.

Governor Seyi Makinde has called on all committee members and stakeholders to demonstrate diligence and unwavering support to ensure the success of this historic event.
