Oyo NLC Chairman Applauds Makinde Over N80,000 Minimum Wage

Chairman of the Nigeria Labour Congress in Oyo State, Kayode Martins, had on Thursday, commended Governor Seyi Makinde for approving N80,000 minimum wage for workers.

Oyo Affairs had reported that the Commissioner for Information and Orientation, Dotun Oyelade, announced in a statement, in Ibadan, on Wednesday, that the technical committee set up by the government recommended and got approval from the governor for the implementation of the new salary scale.

Martins, in an interview with newsmen in Ibadan, on Thursday, described the approval as historic and a demonstration of magnanimity and care for the staffers.

“The governor has again shown that he is a listening person and a true trailblazer. It is the first time that state workers will be earning more than their federal workers counterparts.

“The workers will reciprocate the gesture by improving their productivity, as the approved minimum wage is a huge morale booster,” he said.

He admonished members of the government team in the negotiation to show the same magnanimity by allowing for good consequential adjustment so that all workers across the board would partake of the governor’s milk of human kindness.

The chairman also appreciated workers for showing understanding and solidarity since the journey of the minimum wage started.

He further assured the government of the commitment of the labour leaders in the state to partnering, encouraging and supporting course that improves and impacts positively on the workers in the state.
