Oyo, Ogun courts convict three Cybercriminals arrested by Ibadan EFCC


The Ibadan Zonal Office of the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission yesterday confirmed the conviction of three internet fraudsters named; Afolabi Gbolahan, Gbolahan Sodiq Atanda and Saheed Ayomide Rabiu.



Sodiq Atanda and Ayomide Rabiu were both convicted by Justice Oluremi Oguntoyinbo of the Federal High Court, Abeokuta while Afolabi Gbolahan was convicted by Justice Uche Agomo of the Federal High Court, Ibadan.



Three of them were found guilty and were convicted of fraudulent impersonation, contrary to Section 22 (2) (b) (1) of the Cybercrimes act.


Sodiq, Rabiu and Afolabi were sentenced to 3 months, one month and seven months imprisonment respectively.


Apart from the jail terms, they were each ordered to restitute different items to the authorities and their victims. Afolabi was ordered to return the $1,000 he obtained from his victim by fraudulent means and also to forfeit his iPhone 7 to the Federal Government of Nigeria.




Atanda was ordered to refund his victim $350 and forfeit his iPhone 11 pro along with another iPhone to the Federal Government. Rabiu was not left out and was ordered to forfeit his blue iTel P33 phone to the Federal government as well.
