The Nigeria Meteorological Agency (NiMet) has informed Oyo state government of possible flash floods for the next three days.
The Weather forecast agency issued the warning yesterday in a statement signed by its General Manager (Public Relations); Mr. Muntari Ibrahim in Abuja.
According to the statement, flash floods would hit 33 additional states in the federation in the next days.
“It was discovered that moderate to heavy rains, which might cause flash floods, had begun in several parts of the country and would continue till tomorrow”.
Sokoto, Zamfara, Katsina, Kaduna, Kano, Jigawa, Bauchi, Gombe, Yobe, Kebbi, Niger, Federal Capital Territory, Plateau, Adamawa, Taraba, Kwara, Oyo, Lagos, Ondo, Ogun, Edo, Delta, Bayelsa, Cross River, Akwa Ibom, Benue, Enugu, Ebonyi, Imo, Anambra are states named to experience this weather change.
The agency cautioned that flash floods on highways, communities, farmlands, and bridges could cause road crashes, urging authorities to educate locals.
The National Weather Service warned the public to be cautious and avoid being harmed by rain-related hazards caused by the expected flash floods.
It further urged Nigerians not to dismiss the latest forecast, noting that the previous three-day forecast published at the end of July was 100 percent correct, with heartbreaking tales of sorrow from those affected.
